Jamal Moss of Chicago’s Dirty Criminals crew drops his second 12” on Spectral Sound under the Hieroglyphic Being moniker. Liquid Sex is a further investigation of the classic Chicago House sound; the title cut bathes in echoes as melodic elements are gradually added, making for a deceptively gorgeous slow burn, while “Lost In Translation” bases its whip-crack beat around a plinking melody and mutating vocal sample.
On the B-Side, squealing synths layer upon distorted piano to create the slow build-up of “Dreams De Illusionaries.” To round out the EP, the title track sees a reworking by Portable (Background Records, Sud Electronic), who lends his impeccable touch for tribal rhythms, turning the song into a whole other beast. With the Liquid Sex EP, Hieroglyphic Being proves once again, without doubt, that the future of the Chicago sound is in good hands.
