On Friday, January 14th, in Gent, Belgium, our favorite group of sky-scraping orchestral-pop Danes (that is, Choir of Young Believers) begins a tour that runs through the end of the month, and spans much of Western Europe and the UK. The Choir will swing through the US as well for SXSW in March. Check the dates here.
Jannis Noya Makrigiannis has assembled a stunning seven-piece band for the tour—considerably larger than the duo and quartet formats he’s used recently—which should give his compositions the multi-instrumental majesty of his band’s 2009 debut, This Is for the White in Your Eyes. Above, you’ll find a stripped-down performance of “Why Must It Always Be This Way?”, recorded by KEXP at this year’s CMJ festival.
